This is one of the closer MVP races I have seen in a while. Although only three are getting serious mention as MVP candidates, I think five could reasonably be included. Here's how they rank in various categories.

2. Harden (37.1)
3. James (36.3)
4. Curry (35.6)
5. Davis (35.4)

Total Rebounds per 100 pos.
1. Anthony Davis (14.9)
2. Russel Westbrook (10.6)
3. Lebron James (8.7)
4. James Harden (7.6)
5. Stephen Curry (6.4)

Assists per 100 poss.
1. Russel Westbrook (12.5)
2. Stephen Curry (11.5)
3. LeBron James (10.7)
4. James Harden (9.4)
5. Anthony Davis (3.2)

Steal vs. T/O ratio per game
1. Davis (+0.2)
2. Curry (-1.7)
3. Harden (-2.7)
4. Westbrook and James (-3.4)

Offensive Rating/100
1. Davis (123)
2. Curry (122)
3. Harden (118)
4. James (112)
5. Westbrook (110)

Defensive Rating/100
1. Davis (100)
2. Curry (101)
3. Westbrook and Harden (103)
5. James (105)

Player Efficiency Rating
1. Davis (31.0)
2. Westbrook (28.8 )
3. Curry (28.0)
4. Harden (26.8 )
5. James (26.0)

Win Shares
1. Harden (16.2)
2. Curry (15.6)
3. Davis (14)
4. James (10.4)
5. Westbrook (10.3)

+/-
1. Westbrook (+11.0)
2. Curry (+10.0)
3. Harden (+8.4)
4. James (+7.4)
5. Davis (+7.3)

If not for +/- (which I think is important) and VoR (which is less important, in my estimation), I would say Anthony Davis should be getting a lot more MVP attention than he is getting.

Other than points (which I think is terribly overrated) and Win Shares (which certainly sounds like a meaningful category), it would sure seem like James Harden is getting way too much MVP attention.

I'm not a Westbrook fan, so I am finding it surprising that he is at the head of the +/- and assist/100 categories.

I have a ton of respect for LeBron, but this makes it apparent that he should probably rank no higher than fourth among the competitors this year.

Good stats this time? It seems like basketball players are the most easily comparable of the major sports.
